Years later, my brother and I returned to León.
We walked through workshops and watched boots being constructed by hand. Cutting. Stitching. Lasting. Welting. Finishing. Different artisans, each responsible for their part of the process.
Everything our father had taught us suddenly had a place.
What we had always thought of as simply our family's history looked different standing there. We saw the knowledge, patience, and skill behind a craft that had been passed through generations of our family.
And we realized something.
It was our turn to carry it forward.
Franklin Boots was born from the connection between two places that have shaped our family.
León is where generations before us learned and mastered the craft.
El Paso is home. It is also the Boot Capital of Texas.
We were raised beneath the Franklin Mountains. Those mountains gave Franklin Boots its name. The star within our logo is a nod to the star that shines from the mountains above El Paso—a familiar sight that, for those who grew up here, means home
Our family's story stretches across the border, but the tradition on both sides is remarkably connected: people making things by hand, taking pride in their work, and passing on what they know to the next generation.
Franklin Boots may carry our name, but the story behind it began long before us.
It belongs to our grandfathers who made shoes. To our mother and father. To the aunts, uncles, and cousins who learned the craft. To the artisans whose hands continue it today.
We're simply the next generation.
